Unit brief
Students are to produce a custom made soap bar which will demonstrate a range of knowledge and key skills.
Students will research the process of silicone molding, explore social and cultural trends and develop a theme which will influence their design.
Students will refine their design through prototyping and testing before producing their final end-product using clay and foam modelling as well as Silicone Molding. A portfolio will be produced which documents development throughout the project.

In this project, we learnt to use new skills such as using a hot glue gun, well-thought out planning and the importance of preparation. We were tasked to create our own custom made soap mould, which we would then in turn use to create our soap. As with all our projects, we started with sketching. With my soap i wanted to incorporate a smell which would match the soaps idea (e.g. a red bull can that smells of red bull, a jar of honey that smells of honey), i thought about a whinny the poo, which would smell of honey, but it was to complex to create a mould, so i chose the red bull logo. First, we went onto the computers, using a program called Adobe Illustrator, we transferred our sketches from paper to the program. We then used the laser cutter to cut out our computer refined sketches into layers made out of plastic. We then glued these layers in order, we then had our negative. After that we created a box to pour silicon into to create our mould. We would then stick the negative to the box and pour liquid silicon into the box. We were now ready to start pouring soap. I was quite happy with my final product, it turned out how i wanted to and liked how the soap looked with the different coloured layers.
